Ellie & Tom - An English / Aussie Marquee Wedding at home in Berkshire

Ellie and Tom’s marquee wedding at their family home in Berkshire was a heartfelt celebration of family, garden blooms, and effortless style from start to finish.

Ellie met Tom in Melbourne. She’d promised her mum she wouldn’t fall for an Aussie, but clearly, some promises are meant to be broken. Fast-forward a few years, and Ellie was flying back to the UK with Tom, ready to get married at her family home in Berkshire, while building a life (and their dream family house) in Australia.

Planning this marquee wedding at home from afar was a team effort: Ellie and Tom in Melbourne, me in the UK, and Ellie’s parents helping coordinate on the ground. Despite only meeting in person twice, the process felt seamless — a reminder that distance doesn’t get in the way of a UK destination wedding.

The day began in Surrey, at Verity’s family church — the very same place near her old school, steeped in memories. It was a ceremony filled with love and nostalgia, where every hymn and smile felt like a gentle nod to her past. George looked completely smitten as she walked down the aisle, light filtering through stained glass in the softest shades — the first glimpse of the pastel palette that would carry through the day.

The Ceremonies

The day started at the village church where Ellie grew up. Returning to the place she knew so well, surrounded by friends and family, gave the morning a gentle sense of home.

Back at the family house, the sailcloth marquee was nestled in the walled garden among perfectly manicured roses. Sage & Co Floral Design created modern, overflowing English florals, while a large round bar installation and tree arrangements on the king poles added subtle drama.

The stationery reflected both sides of their story, with Australian eucalyptus and English oak leaves woven into the design — a small but meaningful touch connecting their two worlds.

Even a few rain showers didn’t slow the day down. Ellie and Tom took a quiet moment together under the tree where Tom had proposed, the same tree Ellie loved as a child, to exchange private vows before returning to the celebration.

The Celebration

The marquee was light, airy, and relaxed, allowing guests to enjoy the gardens in between the showers while soaking up the classic English country home setting. The menu was chosen to reflect Tom’s family heritage of cattle farming , speeches were heartfelt, funny, and personal — the kind of moments that stay with everyone long after the day ends.

And then came the dancing. The party was full of energy, with guests from Australia and the UK celebrating together late into the night. It was the perfect mix of cultures, laughter, and music — exactly what made this Berkshire marquee wedding so unforgettable.

What made the day

Ellie and Tom’s wedding was thoughtful, intentional, and effortlessly beautiful. Every detail — from the eucalyptus-and-oak-inspired stationery to stolen moments under the childhood tree — felt considered without being overdone. It was a marquee wedding at home that combined family, friends, and two cultures seamlessly.

A day that reminded everyone that home is where the heart is — whether in Berkshire, Melbourne, or somewhere in between.
